We have the pleasure to announce that Kazimierz Dolny and Janowiec, though geographically separated by the magnificent Vistula Rive,r will be united from 4th till 11th of August 2007 thanks to the Film and Art Festival "TWO RIVERSIDES".
With its new Artistic Direction the Festival becomes an important international event, with ambitions to present not only films but also literature, music and visual arts, which always inspired and contributed to cinema.
Consequently, the Festival opens on August 4th with a Special Concert of Gustavo Santaolalla (Argentina), double Oscar winner for original music to Brokeback Mountain (2005) and Babel (2006). Gustavo will be accompanied by "Bajo Fondo Tango Club". The Concert will take place at 9:00 p.m. at the romantic Ruins of the Castle of Kazimierz Dolny and will directly follow the Polish Premiere of the recent film by Giuseppe Tornatore "La Sconosciuta" ("Unknown")
Another special musical event will be arranged on August 8th, starring the Basque instrumentalist Kepa Junkera (Spain), one of the contributors of soundtracks to Almodovar's movies. Kepa brings along his band featuring a unique and spectacular ethnic percussion instrument called "cialaparta".
During the whole Festival several discussions, lectures and press conferences with participation of international and Polish film directors, including Agnieszka Holland, Felice Laudadio, Bob Rafelson and Wiesław Saniewski will be arranged.
Special LandArt spectacle prepared by an artist and performer Jarek Koziara is expected on the meadows below the Castle of Janowiec. It will compete with performances arranged by Robert Kuśmirowski in Kazimierz Dolny.
"Czuly Barbarzynca", a renown avant-garde library-bookshop club from Warsaw will open in Kazimierz Dolny for the duration of the Festival replicating its unique atmosphere and hosting discussions with best Polish contemporary authors.
Five specially arranged cinema areas will be operating during the Festival:
The "Big Screen" Cinema
The "Big screen" will host the most recent films, selected also from this year's Festivals in Berlin, Rotterdam and Cannes, most of them presented for the first time in Poland. The Big Screen will close with "Molier" the most recent Italian - Polish production. "Molier" will be screened in the presence of Laura Morante, who plays one of the leading roles, and of Felice Laudadio, the former Director of Venice Film Festival. Felice Laudadio will also lecture on the role of festivals in the promotion and development of European cinema.
Exploring most recent cinematographic productions, "Two Riversides" will also present in the "Big Screen" Cinema two eminent directors of world cinema. We are proud to announce that this year's "Two Riversides Festival" will feature a retrospective presentation of films directed by great personality of American cinema Mr. Bob Rafelson. ("Head" 1968 or "The Monkees: Our Favorite Episodes" 1967 "Five Easy Pieces" 1970 "The King of Marvin Gardens" 1972 "The Postman Always Rings Twice" 1981 "Black Widow" 1987 "Mountains of the Moon" 1989, "No Good Deed" 2002)
Bob Rafelson confirmed his participation in the Festival to introduce films to the accredited journalists and Festival audience. He will also lecture on the art of cinema.
As a European retrospective we have selected Czech cinema: Jiri Menzel directing films inspired by Bohumil Hrabal. Jiri Menzel confirmed his presence in Kazimierz Dolny. Mr Menzel will participate in a debate devoted to problems related to cinematographic adaptations of literature
A special Day will be dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the emergence of famous Polish Film School with screening of Jerzy Kawalerowicz's "Pociąg" ("The Train") among several planned events.
"Small Screen" Cinema
"Small screen" will host documentaries, animations and short movies including "Płonący Facet" by S. Grynberg, E. Pieta, "Pamiętnik Filmowy Andrzeja Kondratiuka", "Bunt Janion" A. Arnold, "Dwie szuflady" J .Strekowski ,"Profesor" M. Zmarz-Koczanowicz, "Słońce i cień " J. Holoubek.
Small Marketplace
Each evening at 9 p.m. the Small Marketplace will screen one of the best films of the 2006/7. If you missed an important film during the last 12 months you will certainly find it on the Small Marketplace. Just check the program.
Castle of Kazimierz Dolny
In addition to concerts, every evening Castle of Kazimierz will host ambitious international productions suggested and introduced by Grazyna Torbicka and her program "Kocham Kino" ("I love Cinema"). The program is famous among film fans for promoting artistic films for the last 10 years in the 2 Channel of Polish TV. Films selected for presentation in this section of the Festival have been selected from among those scheduled for TV screenings in "Kocham Kino" in the forthcoming season. On August 7th "Good bye Lenin" will be introduced by Grazyna Torbicka from the Castle of Kazimierz Dolny both to the local Festival and "live" to nationwide TV audience.
Janowiec
Janowiec invites for everyday film screenings and evening concerts in the unique atmosphere of the "Cinema in the Barn".
